DLECTRICITY is Detroit’s nighttime festival of art + light that featured over 35 world-renowned and emerging artists whose cutting-edge works of art illuminated Midtown Detroit in 2014, from the Detroit Institute of Arts down to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. This two-night “Nuit Blanche” festival was scheduled for Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27 in Midtown Detroit from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. Saturday night also featured the DLECTRICITY Light Bike Parade where thousands of cyclists biked a 4-mile route through Midtown Detroit, adding extra light and energy to the streets. Weekend programming also included artist talks and performances. DLECTRICITY is produced by Midtown Detroit, Inc. and is free to the public.

Sue de Beer, a New York-based artist who works with multiple mediums including video, photography, sculpture and installation, explores connections between memory, history and architecture. Sue de Beer will present a public lecture on her work and ideas at CCS on September 25, as part of her participation in DLECTRICITY.
Sue also presents her project The Legendary Leland Club, at the Historical Museum plaza throughout festival hours.

The city, bodies, technology, history and future connect in an exploration of public space. Maya Stovall is creating a uniquely choreographed dance piece that will be responsive to both the changes in sound and in audience at the installation Beacon by artist Megan Heeres will present at Dlectricity. Working with the sound scape that has been created, Ms. Stovall has choreographed signature gestures that will be simple and repeatable in which willing audience members can participate. Audience participation is welcomed and encouraged.

This is a live video projection or “MaxCast” of the Pops performance, Let’s Dance, conducted by Jeff Tyzik that will be projected onto the façade of the Carpenter’s Building on Woodward as the production happens live within Orchestra Hall. Following the performances, footage from previous classical concerts will be projected until midnight.

Sound artists Kido Pielack and Denis Rochac will perform a live accompaniment of the light installation Beacon by artist Megan Heeres in the bell tower of the First Congregational Church. Marrying both analog and digital instruments, they will create a soundscape inspired by traditional church bells, gospel choirs, contemporary vocals, and synthesizers. Participants are encouraged to come and move to the sounds that will in turn make the light installation respond with corresponding energy and intensity.
