PROJECT FEATURE: SOUND THE DEEP WATERS

Angela Fraleigh and Josh Miller present Sound the Deep Waters, an interactive Victorian Flower Language dictionary that invites visitors to submit message via an onsite tablet – love letters, prose, slogans, inside jokes, etc. that will manifest as bold, brilliant, larger than life flowers. Imagine proposing to your significant other through secret floral language!

A specific flower may reference an individual’s trait, intention, sentiment, or condition. In Sound the Deep Waters, the Interactive Victorian flower language dictionary plays with this notion of subversive decor and helps shed light on language as a perceptual domain exploring how images and ideas intersect and experiments with how meaning is made and beliefs are constructed. The floral imagery is derived from the Detroit Institute of Arts’ collection, and will be projected on their building’s facade.

“Canopy” is an interactive art installation that invites visitors to power their own experience with bike-driven generators. As participants pedal, the tree-like sculptures will illuminate, spin, and inflate in time with their efforts. Developed by Rhode Island-based Pneuhaus inflatable art studio and Bike Powered Events, “Canopy” will have bikes sized for both adults and kids at DTE Energy‘s Beacon Park Detroit at #Dlectricity this Sept 24-25, from 7pm to midnight each night of the festival.
