:roundabout is an animated theatrical Mini-Object and Media Art installation.
A magical sequence of weird occurrences. Rotating platforms, comic-like objects and characters, loops, sound scape and moving shadows are combined to create a magic experience and letting the viewer dive into the improbable world of ghostly-dark and frightening-dreamy situations, where all is connected and everything and nothing seems possible.
The shadows of the past. The shadows of the present. Our own shadows melting with those of the others. The ghosts of our own fears, of terrible wars, of our obviously not working political systems… a chaos of interwoven, apparently unrelated situations.
:roundabout is an installation about the non-quantifiable, about very old inner fears and outer projections of common panics.
Karla (born 1975 in Germany) is a multidisciplinary artist. Educated in Germany, Spain and the UK, she lives and works in Barcelona. She uses her comic like drawings, animations, handmade objects, miniature light and video-art to create room-filling theatrical performance and installation pieces, which have been exhibited in festivals and art spaces worldwide.
Recurring topics in her work are the mysteries of time and space, coincidences, parallel universes, mysterious encounters and ghostly stories… Encounters and dis-encounters of daily life and outer space situations, framing irrationalities and paradoxes in contemporary society… which she portraits with a good portion of humour.
She has been closely collaborating with theatre and dance companies, musicians, stage directors and engineers.
Her influences come from science fiction, psychology, observation of everyday live, from the many work related travels and encounters with people from very far away countries, from the misery in this world and the beautiful things of humanity.
