ARTIST FEATURE: Farah Al Qasimi
#DLECTRICITY is excited to exhibit “General Behavior” by Farah Al Qasimi, a 7-minute video composed of errant sheep, Gulfie YouTube eclectica, road scenes, family lore, toys and games, the artist’s famous love for Jell-O, as well as Al Qasimi’s face superimposed on a twirling shawarma stick — among other things.
Named after the title of a set of children’s Islamic morality stickers, “General Behavior’ is a punning characterization of the contents of the video — snatches of life drawn from the artist’s archive that are held together by Al Qasimi’s editing and, occasionally, her own voice. These scraps, sensuous, humorous, and beguiling, offer up a Proustian sound and smell and sight bath.
This video will be projected outside State Hall on Wayne State University’s campus on September 24th and 25th. Read more about this project and others by clicking the “ARTWORKS” tab!
