Artist Information

“ephemeral angels” is an interactive audio-visual installation, which invites participation and movement, a poetic and lighthearted experience.
Visitors saw themselves as reflected in a mirror with wings of white plumage, like a magical mirage.
The movement of the wings activates a particles system, generating lights and sounds.

In a first approach, this work does not refer only to Philosophical Creatures but also to the beginnings of Aviation Science:

“… mimicking birds, Humans become angels … ”

Concepts of biomimicry related to the first attempts to fly in Human History, such as those by Leonardo da Vinci and Otto Lilienthal, inspire this Artwork.

Wings and feathers treatment bases on the studies of Otto Lilienthal collected in the publication “The bird flight as the basis of the art of flying” from 1889. In the original prologue he wrote:

“I intended to […] create a work which should spread the conviction, that there is no law in nature that, like an insurmountable bolt, encloses the solution to flying.“

Going deeper into the Collective Imaginary is possible to better understand the pleasure that this work awakens in some visitors, one of them confessed:

This work creates a space of pre-lingual and ancestral happiness…
