2017 Exhibition

Light as a Shadow

14. Light as a Shadow

LOCATION:  The Detroit Institute of Arts  “Electric  Park” at Woodward and Kirby

Light as a Shadow is an interactive light exhibit and workshop that allows visitors to explore how white light is composed of three primary colors through play, experimentation, and making.

Visitors begin by using Arts & Scraps materials to create a character, creature or whatever creative expression they would like. They then use their creation or their hands/bodies to create shadows on the projection wall. Visitors have the option to manipulate and modify their scrap creations and themselves to create unique shadows and (if they’d like) stories.

Visitors will also have the option to experiment with the shadows by moving the red, blue, and green lights allowing visitors to experiment with light, shadow, and color mixing. The visitors can continually experiment by make modifications and altering their creation.

The immersive nature of the exhibit due to its size encourages play and exploration with other visitors by creating a sense of awe around the phenomena of light.
